"Federation" day finally arrived for Michael this last Saturday, March 8th. Officially, it's called The Festival of Federation Music Clubs. Michael had practiced for several months on two piano pieces, working diligently to perfect them. Here he is standing in front of Gardner Hall at the U of U, where Federation happens!

We found his assigned room, then sat down to wait for his group's turn. Three students play during the half-hour session. It's quite unnerving, as three judges sit behind you as you play. After your first piece, you sit and wait at the piano while the judges score your performance and write comments for what seems forever. Then you do your second piece, bow, and wait while they write, and write, and write. Michael looks deceptively happy in this picture, knowing what awaits him behind that door!

This is a more realistic picture--can you just feel the butterflies in his stomach?

YAY! I'm done! All the nerves and dreading are forgotten, and I even got a "Superior" rating!

Now comes the best part--the traditional root beer freeze at Hires. And I never have to play those pieces again!

Hey Michael- way to go!!!! You are an awesome piano player!
Michael--we're so proud of you too! I had no doubt you'd get a superior rating! I agree with Mom, definitely the best part of the whole thing is the shake after it's all done. Great job!
